1.Materials, Equipment & Tools

  • ESD Vinyl Tile: physical properties and appearance dimensions should meet standard NF EN 13 415-NF EN 1081 or standard NF EN 61-340-4-1 or ASTM F 150 NF PA 99. The resistance value of conductive tile should be 2.5×104 -1.0×106Ω, the resistance value of the static dissipative tile should be 1.0×106-1.0×109 Ω.
  • Conductive Adhesive: should be water-soluble glue, the resistance value should be less than the resistance value of vinyl tile, the bonding strength should be greater than 3×106N/M2.
  • Welding Rod: should use uniform color, uniform outer diameter and flexible material.
  • Copper Strip: the thickness should be not less than 0.025mm, the width should be 12mm or 15mm.
  • The ESD vinyl tile should be stored in a ventilated and dry warehouse away from acids, alkalis and other corrosive substances. It should be lightly loaded and unloaded. It is strictly forbidden to hit hard, and to be exposed to outdoor sun and rain.
  • Installation equipment (including tools): slotting machine, plastic welding torch, rubber boring head, cutter, ruler, brush, waxing machine, etc. Its specifications, performance and technical indicators should meet the construction process requirements.
  • Installation Preparation
    (1) Learn design and construction drawings and survey the construction site.
    (2) Formulate construction plan, draw the grounding system diagram and ground grid layout.
    (3) Prepare materials, equipment and tools according to the construction process requirements.
    (4) When the area is larger than 200 square meters, demonstration laying should be carried out before the formal
    installation.

2.Installation Site Requirement

  • Temperature of the installation site should be between 10 and 35 °C; the relative temperature and humidity should not exceed 75%; the ventilation should be good, other construction projects should have basically ended.
  • When base ground is cement or terrazzo:
    (1) Ground should be clean, and the paint, adhesive and other residues on the ground should be cleaned up.
    (2) Ground should be level, check with a 2 meter ruler, the clearance should be less than 2mm. If there are irregularities or cracks, they must be filled.
    (3) Ground should be dry, it should be waterproofed first.
    (4) The surface layer should be hard and sand-free, and the mortar strength is recommended to use self-leveling concrete above the medium strength type.
  • When the ground is already installed with wood floor, tile, plastic, etc, the original floor should be removed, and the residual adhesive on the ground should be completely removed. The newly poured ground should wait for the 28d curing period before proceeding to the next construction of the process.
  • The installation site should be equipped with artificial lighting devices.
  • Determine the outlet for earthing. When the area is within 100m2, the outlet should be no less than one. For every 100m2 increase of the area, 1-2 outlet for earthing should be added.
  • Ground should be thoroughly cleaned before construction.No scum, dust or other dirt should be left on the ground.

3.Installation Process

  1. Drawing Lines: drawing the baseline and lines for the layout of copper strip. The copper strips are arranged along the medians of each tile and encircled around the edge of the room. Normally copper strip grid is 0.6×0.6m.
  2. Laying Copper Strip: copper strip should be laid based on the lines drawn. The cross-section of copper strip should be at the center of vinyl tile. The strip shall be laid flat, and the line connected to outlet for earthing should be left long enough.

  3. Applying Conductive Adhesive: adhesive should be applied on the ground and coated strip. The coating should be uniform and comprehensive, adhesive should be dried naturally after applying.

  4. Laying Vinyl Tile: when adhesive is dried to the point where it is not sticky, laying should be started. Follow the baseline and start laying. There should be a 1-2mm gap between 2 tiles, and the width of gap should be the same. Use a rubber hammer to hit tile surface, and check the edge to ensure that the sticking is firm. Apply non-standard vinyl tile to the edge.

  5. Leading Outlet for Earthing: when the laying arrives earthing place, lead cooper strip out and connect to grounding terminal by soldering or crimping method.
  6. Opening V-shaped Groove: when all tiles have been laid successfully, the groove should be opened with a slotting machine along the seam of vinyl tiles. The groove line should be straight and uniform, and the groove width is preferably 3±0.2mm.
  7. Laying Welding Rod: apply plastic welding gun to the groove, to hot-weld rod to the tiles. The welding excess is flattened with knife, but the surface of the tile must not be scratched.

  8. Surface Cleaning: after the laying is completed, clean the floor and apply wax protection(if necessary).

2.Installation Site Requirement

  • The subfloor is required to be firm, dry, clean and even. For the strength and hardness of the subfloor, it is required that no breaking point or dusting be observed during the scratch test.The moisture content requirement of the subfloor must be measured less than 3% using a moisture meter. The levelness of the subfloor height difference must be less than 4mm for every 2m length. The subfloor must be smooth, clean and free from dust, loose particles, grease or other contaminant. During the subfloor inspection, mark areas which required to be repair especially crack areas.
  • The recommended indoor temperature and floor temperature for installation must be maintain between 15℃ to 38℃. It is not recommended to conduct installation for temperature below 10℃. The relative humidity on site should be maintained between 40% to 75%.
  • Check installation environment and working surface, and avoid crossed installation with other trades on site.
  • Check the color, pattern and quantity of materials, ensure the materials are placed vertically, and safety precautions are taken.
  • Allow material to acclimatize on actual site for 48 hours prior before the installation. Please note that the installation site must be above 15℃.
  • Use adhesive and accessories, pay attention to the conductive property of the materials.
  • The same batch must be installed in the same area. Failure to do so may result in shade variation. Check the material in advance for defect such as color difference or damage and solve them immediately.
  • Unrolled the material 24 hours before the installation to reduced dimensional changes due to expansion and contraction. Avoid installation of material immediate after it is unrolled.

3.Installation Process

  • Pre-installation Preparation and Trimming of Factory Edge: Allow material to acclimatize on actual site for 48 hours prior before the installation. Confirm and ensure the batch, model, color of materials meet the requirements. During pre-installation preparation, use an edge trimmer to trim the factory edge of the seams of PVC sheets.
  • Earth Point: The earthing line and the copper strip should be welded together. The conductive flooring needs to be earthed by the electrical engineer. There should be more than one earth point for a room of 40 square meters and above. The distance of the connection earth point and the copper strip should be less than 10 meters.
  • Laying Copper Strip: Lay the copper strip about 250mm from the wall. Ensure the copper strip is placed beneath every piece of vinyl sheet and edge of the vinyl sheet as shown below. The recommended copper strip is thickness of 0.01- 0.05mm and width of 20-40mm.

  • Application of Adhesive
  1. About 48 hours after self-leveling is completed, use recommended conductive Adhesive (such as M720D or other similar performance adhesive), used a trowel with A1 trowel notch or K-type scraper to apply evenly on the floor, for adhesive usage please refer to the recommendations by the adhesive manufacturer.
  2. Lay the electric copper strip on the conductive adhesive according to the design requirements.
  3. According to the recommended installation procedure , placed the vinyl sheets on the floor, materials should be pre-installed, and ensure the same batch of products are installed in the same area.
  4. To install the seams joint of the two vinyl sheet, an overlap of 15mm is required. The overlap vinyl sheet is removed by a recess scriber and a trimming knife. The gap between the two seams of the vinyl is about 1mm.
  • Removal of Bubbles and Use of Roller
  1. After the vinyl sheet is adhere onto the floor, use a cork presser to apply pressure on the surface of the vinyl sheet to removed bubbles below the vinyl sheet.
  2. Used a 50 kg pressure roller to roll on the floor evenly, at the same time repair the edge warps at seams area. Corners near the edge may be beyond the reach of the 50Kg pressure roller. Therefore, a smaller roller is recommend to be used to ensure the sheets are adhere firmly.
  3. Excess adhesive on the floor surface should be wiped off immediately and ensure the seam joint are clean.
  4. After 24 hours, grooving and welding can be done when the adhesive is completely cured.

    Removal of Bubbles

  • Grooving
  1. Grooving can be done only when the adhesive is completely cured. Rout or groove the seam to a minimum of 2/3 of the material depth using a grooving machine or manual groover with a sharp blade against a straight edge, so that both sides of the seam are grooved equally and uniformly.
  2. For electric grooving machine, the initial and ending of the part of the seam may not be able to reach. Therefore, a manual groover is required.
  3. Before welding the seams, remove the dust and debris in the seams.
  • Welding
  1. Use manual welding gun or automatic welding machine for the seam welding.
  2. The temperature should be set at about 350-400 ℃ .
  3. Before welding, practiced on a scrap piece of material in order to achieve suitable (to ensure the welding rod will melt) and constant speed to ensure the welding rod will melt into the seams gap.
  4. When the welding rod is weld, allow it to cool off for 10 minutes. The excess welding rod is removed in two passes. For the first pass, used a quarter moon (spatula) knife with a trim plate or skiving knife to remove the protruding welding rod.
  5. When the welding rod is fully cool off, apply the second pass using the skiving knife or quarter moon (spatula) knife. The second pass should be flush with the material.
  6. Ensure the welding line is smooth, and the seam is free from debonding, cracks, warping and other conditions.

  • Product Maintenance
  1. Within 72 hours after installation, heavy traffic or heavy rollers are not allowed on the vinyl sheet. This is to ensure that the adhesive will be completely cured.
  2. After the completion of installation, clean and tidy the floor surface.
  3. Use suitable wax for floor maintenance.
  4. After floor maintenance, take measures to protect the floor material.

    Electronic Resistance Test

  • Cleaning and Maintenance: In order to protect the physical properties of the conductive floor material, use cleaning appliances and product which are suitable for conductive flooring. For waxing of conductive flooring material, it is recommended to apply not more than 2 layers of coating.
